Last night the kids were playing with sparklers, the stars were out and the moon was slim, so it made for some good pictures of the palm tree in our yard and the stars behind it. Each image is available on my website www.CarsonMatthewsPhotography.com. The change in ISO from 3200 to 800 made a big impact on what is visible in each picture.
This weekend over Fall Break we made a quick trip up to Highlands North Carolina. On Saturday morning we strolled up to Sunset Rock to get the kids out of the house before lunch. The trail head is located just past Mountain Fresh and only takes about 20 minutes to hike. There is parking across the street from the Highlands Nature Center on Horse Cove Road. Sunset Rock offers a stunning overhead view of the town of Highlands. In the morning the sun behind you provides beautiful light over the town, highlighting the fall colors.
In the evening the sun sets perfectly over Highlands. Below is a picture taken in November of 2015 over Thanksgiving.
In October we took a trip to Turks and Caicos to celebrate the women in our lives. We stayed on the north side of Providenciales in a private home called Villa Palmera. Looking out over the infinity pool into the Caribbean Ocean you can see clearly through the water with coral spread out among it and waves crashing across the reef in the distance. We had a great time paddle boarding out and snorkeling along the coral. On the next to last day we stumbled upon a lemon shark about a half mile out from the house… we quickly returned home.
Here are several pictures looking out away from the house over the course of several days:
And here is the picture from our Delta airplane as we were flying away from the islands. You can see the reef that envelopes the north side of the island.
After school got out we bolted for Ponte Vedra Beach to spend the Memorial Day Holiday. Monday morning I missed the sunrise by about 30 minutes and instead looked for sharks teeth before the crowd and tide came in. Tuesday morning I made it just in time to catch the first glimpse of the sun cresting over a pillow of clouds at the tip of the horizon. Wherever you are, the sun rising rarely disappoints. Tuesday was no exception.
The first 3 pictures below were taking with my Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 and the last 2 were taken with my 14-24mm f/2.8.
Last week we were on Spring Break in Seacrest Beach on 30a in Florida. One of my favorite things about being in this area is photographing the buildings and spaces that make up Rosemary Beach. Symmetry, boardwalks and beautiful architecture define Rosemary Beach. Below are some pictures from a morning bike ride. All were taken with a Nikon D800 and Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8. These photos are all available at http://www.carsonmatthewsphotography.com/Travel/RosemaryBeach
This past week over New Years we spent a few days in Ponte Vedra Beach Florida. The weather wasn’t great, but at least it wasn’t raining. I found some pretty nice size sharks teeth and got some good shots of the shorebirds hanging around the beach. Below was my favorite picture of what looks like a Sanderling or Dunlin. I only say that after looking at this website http://jaxbirding.com/duval_lifelist.php that shows a lot of the common birds found around this area of northeast Florida. This and other pictures of Ponte Vedra can be found at http://www.carsonmatthewsphotography.com/Travel/PonteVedra/
Last weekend we took the boys down to Serenbe for a day trip and to have a picture taken with Santa Claus. Serenbe has filled in a lot since I was last there, but it still gives you that feeling that you are somewhere special. It was also a good chance to try out my new Nikon 70-200mm f2.8 lens. Here are some pictures from our visit. You can also view these and more at http://www.carsonmatthewsphotography.com/Travel/Serenbe/
